In this episode, we finally confirm to the best of our ability that our damage is not rotted but rather damage from termites. We went back and forth on this a lot, and in this video, we finally see enough evidence of termite damage. The trails, dust and by dust I mean termite shit, are all evidence that we did have them at some point. We suspected It and had an exterminator check out the boat before we bought it, but like most things that does not guarantee you won’t have an issue.
This could have been residual damage from the termites many years ago, or it could have been some that we got from a spring swarm which happens by us. Either way, we jump into the repairs and remove all the core that was weakened or damaged by the termites. We remove part of a bulkhead as well, but I suspect that bulkhead was rot not termites in that section.
Deb continues and finishes sanding the boom down to bare wood, and we even found a repair or 2 we can make there.
