We have wanted to install a new ceiling in our boat for some time now. We even did this on our previous boat. This week we decided to finally do something about that crappy ceiling in the salon. We have been contemplating different materials to use on the overhead and haven’t found one that we really liked.
What material to use
I like the way a white beadboard looks, however, most of the material you buy is a compressed board that is not good with moisture. If you used this for your boat ceiling, it likely would absorb moisture and either rot or mold over time. I have tried some thin wood alternatives but they have been a bit too thin and flexible so they ‘sagged’ between attach points, therefore, they would not last.
We finally tested and settled on a ceiling material. In this video, you will see how we installed the boat ceiling. You will see how to tab in supports to hold the new ceiling material up. We do some woodwork, fiberglass work and Deb provides an update on what she has been doing with the interior. The work is coming together but we are getting down to the wire for sure because we want to move back aboard the boat this month if possible.
