Glass Bottom Kayaks
What? A Glass Bottom Kayak, that is Crazy, you may say. Back in 2007 See Through Canoes was born in St. Petersburg Florida. They built a combo canoe/kayak that is completely clear. Every part of it is see through. You can see a little bit about the company on their website.
Our First Kayak Trip
Way back in 2003 or so Deb and I took a Cruise and it stopped in Key West Fl. Our Daughter had been kayaking once before and talked about how fun it was. When we were picking “excursions” to do from the cruise, our daughter suggested this activity. We Loved it.
Deb falls in love with Kayaking
Years later Deb and I were in Jamaica and rented a house along the south coast. One of the benefits of this particular house was that they had a kayak we could use. Every single day, Deb spent hours paddling

When we were down in Florida looking at property we decided to introduce the
Glass bottom Kayak Tour
Deb arranged with this company to do a 90 minute guided tour. The challenge was that the weather was a bit raining a windy. The company we arranged with were great.
They contacted us to let us know that the location and wind was making it a rather bad location for the trip. We rescheduled for a later day that week. Then as the day got closer the weather didn’t get better (wind specifically.) They contacted us again to let us know that we could do a different location (but with murky water) or we could cancel/reschedule. We pinged the family and they all wanted to do this.
Touring the Mangroves
We loaded up the canoes and they are a bit unstable due to their very round bottom but they are more stable than a kayak, I would say. These are rowed like a kayak but shaped like a canoe which means the sides are a bit higher than kayak.
This led to a different motion required to row without bumping the sides of the canoe. We had a blast even though we didn’t see much wildlife due to the murky water. The mangrove tunnels were fun and I could easily see us doing this for hours at a time to adventure rather than just 90 minutes.
In the attached video, we will show you some of our trip and even a property we really loved.
